Why should I care about indoor air quality?

According to the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), indoor air may be two to five times – and up to 100 times – more polluted than outdoor air. Newer homes may suffer from high levels of indoor air pollution because they are tightly sealed and insulated. While this helps with heating and cooling costs, it does not allow your home to “breathe,” so it traps contaminants inside. Children, elderly residents and people suffering from allergies and asthma may be at a higher risk for respiratory symptoms when indoor air quality is poor.

What is a SEER and EER?

Since January 2006, all residential air conditioners sold in the United States must have at least a 13 SEER. SEER is the abbreviation for Seasonal Energy Efficiency Ratio and it is a U.S. government standard energy rating and reflects the overall system efficiency of your cooling system. An EER is short for Energy Efficiency Ratio and doesn’t take into consideration the time of year, but rather the system’s energy efficiency at the peak operating use. Both ratings should be considered in choosing cooling products. The rating is a ratio of the cooling output divided by the power consumption and measures the cooling performance of the system. The Federal government developed an ENERGY STAR program for high efficiency central air conditioning systems that in order to qualify must have a SEER of at least 14.

What is an Energy Star® Rating?

You may have noticed the ENERGY STAR symbol on some of your appliances, including your furnace and AC unit. HVAC systems that have the ENERGY STAR symbol meet stringent energy efficiency guidelines set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency and the Department of Energy, and are designed to be more eco-friendly than comparable products.

How do I know what size HVAC system to purchase?

There is no cut-and-dried answer to this question. It depends upon your home’s age, square footage, construction type, and insulation type, as well as the performance rating of the system you choose. We have Project Manager’s available to provide you with a free estimate after evaluating your specific cooling and heating needs and conducting a whole-house energy analysis or “load calculation” to determine which system will improve your comfort for years to come.

How often should I change my air filter?

Regular filter replacement ensures that your system operates at peak efficiency, allowing you to enjoy cleaner air, eliminating dust, dirt and allergens. If your filter is not disposable, it should be carefully cleaned every one to two months. Standard disposable filters should be changed every one to two months, and premium filters should be changed every two to four months. As a helpful reminder, mark all required filter changes on your calendar.

What does a preventative maintenance service include?

During your heating and cooling inspection, our team will perform a 15 point comprehensive survey and cleaning. We will also change standard filters at no charge. This ensures your equipment will be ready no matter the season.

How often should I have my heating and cooling system serviced?

Prudential and equipment manufacturers recommend servicing your HVAC equipment twice per year to ensure that your system is performing safely and efficiently. Neglected systems require more repairs, and airflow may be restricted due to dirt and debris buildup. Proper HVAC maintenance improves the lifespan and energy efficiency of your equipment.

How much does service cost?

We offer an upfront $99 diagnostic rate. One of our qualified service technicians will evaluate your system and he/she will provide you with a detailed estimate for you to review and approve before any repairs are made. Our service technicians are not paid on commissions, so you will never get a pushy sales pitch for something you do not need.
